We have officially begun construction on our Penticton rental community, Skaha Shores. On February 19th, Penticton’s City Councillors gathered with Highstreet team members to celebrate Skaha Shore’s official groundbreaking.
The new development is being built on the land that had previously been home to Lake Skaha Tent and Trailer Park. The City of Penticton staff and Council were very supportive of Highstreet’s rezoning of the site from commercial to multifamily. The two buildings will feature a combined total of 180 rental homes, community building, fitness room, dog run, bike racks, and community garden. In addition to solar panels powering the common areas, the Skaha Shores project will be aiming for BC Step Code 4, 12 years ahead of the legislated requirement, and will make use of FortisBC’s commercial construction performance incentives.
“Nicole Capewell, Blake Laven, Michael Hodges, and Marc Vere were a big help and instrumental in having the development process move smoothly and quickly,” explained Project Manager Mike Kristiansen. “Open and ongoing communication as well as their effort in the process helped ensure things stayed on track and were clear to all parties.”
“The City of Penticton is one of the best communities we’ve worked with in Western Canada,” said Scott Butler, President of Highstreet. “When City staff and Council look for ways to make things happen, it’s amazing to see how quick the process can be to get more housing built at the affordable end of the housing spectrum.”
